Tyson graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995 and obtained his law degree from the University of Richmond in 1999. He then began work with the Public Defender’s Office in Danville, and later in Roanoke. In 2002, he transitioned to private practice in a small firm in Rocky Mount. In 2004, Tyson joined the Capital Defender’s Office, through which he successfully handled numerous death penalty cases at the trial level.
Tyson ultimately gave in to his entrepreneurial spirit and pursued the opportunity to market and sell a line of new active wear and ‘wearable-electronic’ products known as LimbGear(R). In so doing, Tyson recruited a management team, capitalized the business, sourced the materials, secured the production manufacturing, configured the supply chain logistics, secured sales and brought the product to market. In the process, Tyson prosecuted several trademarks to registration, worked directly with patent counsel on multiple patent applications, and negotiated licensing agreements with dozens of colleges and universities around the country. In 2010, Tyson was named among the “Top 20 Under 40” business people in the greater Roanoke Valley area by the Blue Ridge Business Journal, and LimbGear(R) was named among the “Top 40 Innovator” companies by Apparel Magazine.
Most recently, Tyson has assisted the Virginia Tech Hokies’ Defensive Coordinator, Coach Bud Foster, in setting-up and managing his non-profit scholarship corporation, The Lunch Pail Defense Foundation, which Tyson will continue to manage and promote going forward.
