The Monty Hall Christmas Problem

From Anne Giles Clelland:

I grew up watching Monty Hall's "Let's Make a Deal," so when I first learned of the Monty Hall Problem, I heard it in announcer Jay Stewart's excited, dramatic voice: "Door number one, door number two, or door number threeee?!"  Apparently the movie "21" opens with the Monty Hall Problem.

Uncertain of which present to give Mr. Handshake 2.0 for Christmas, I offered him "The Monty Hall Christmas Problem."

The Monty Hall Problem for Christmas

I said, "Behind one door is something you already have.  Behind another door is something you may want that's moderately priced.  Behind another door is something you may want that's high-priced.  Which door do you choose?"

Which do you think he chose?  Which would you choose?

Because of holiday travel plans, we exchanged gifts early, so I know which door Mr. Handshake 2.0 chose.  You choose today.  I'll share how Mr. Handshake 2.0 handled the Monty Hall Problem tomorrow!

Tomorrow arrived here:  The Monty Hall Christmas Problem – Solved!

  1. I’m intrigued by the idea of “the gift he already has” Can’t wait to hear the results on that one. I’d probably choose Door #2. (I don’t know Mr. Handshake 2.0 well enough to guess for him ;))

  2. Thank you so much for your comment! I had the absolute BEST time! Here’s the answer:
