Heyo Receives Seed Funding from DayOne Ventures

Yesterday, November 2, 2010, Heyo, Inc. announced the release of its new social planning mobile application.  Heyo was founded by Frederick Cook and Rishi Ishairzay with seed funding from DayOne Ventures.

Heyo, the social planning app. What's in your future?

Start-up entrepreneurs and company founders the world over ask, "Who gets funded?"

Handshake 2.0 asked Bill Boebel, Vice President of Stategy at Rackspace Hosting and DayOne Ventures Mentor: "Why fund Heyo?"

Bill Boebel kindly answered:

We selected Fred and Rishi into the DayOne Ventures summer program because we believed in the two of them. Their initial product idea was questionable, but we saw that these two entrepreneurs were smart, had passion and were extremely willing to take our input.  During the summer, DayOne mentors and I worked with them weekly on topics like finance, marketing and product.  I primarily focused on their product.

Their journey from the start of the program in May to today has been pretty amazing.  They pivoted business models twice, once completely scrapping everything and starting from scratch, each time getting closer to something solid.  Without a mentoring program like DayOne, this typically would take entrepreneurs a year or two of trial and error.

We founded DayOne Ventures to help entrepreneurs go through this cycle faster and end up with a business that is better positioned to succeed than if they did it entirely on their own.

DayOne Ventures is housed at VT KnowledgeWorks. VT KnowledgeWorks is a client of Handshake Media, Incorporated, the parent company of Handshake 2.0.

  1. Now, how very cool is that — the day after Phil Buehler of Olgivy One debuted his film about Blacksburg’s passion for social media, a Blacksburg company unveils a new social media mobile app! This is a very cool place to connect…with entrepreneurs! If you’re an entrepreneur or future entrepreneur, you should “check-in” to Blacksburg.

  2. Great connections, Kelly! “What’s in your future?” is Heyo’s tagline. Future entrepreneurs can use Heyo to plan their meet-up in Blacksburg!

Contratulations, Fred and Rishi, co-founders of Heyo!

  3. Thanks for the article! I can’t say enough about how much DayOne has helped us learn about our market and move quickly to capitalize on opportunities. Bill is dead-on about it taking a year or two to get to this point otherwise, which in our business, means we’ve missed out.

We’re very, very excited about future of Heyo, and social media in Blacksburg!

  4. does this mean no more Actifititity !?!

    : – (

  5. For now, it looks like the founders are focused on Heyo. One never knows, though. Very nice of you to remember that the founders of Heyo are also the founders of Actifity.
