On the Move and Mobile with Coldwell Banker Townside Realtors

Posted by Anne Giles Clelland at 7:00 AM on September 30, 2010:

Coldwell Banker Townside, REALTORS (R), is walking the talk of Coldwell Banker's tagline, "We never stop moving."

On-the-go buyers and sellers of homes and real estate can find out all about Coldwell Banker Townside's agents with one touch using the Coldwell Banker Townside App.

Coldwell Banker Townside, with offices in the New River Valley and the Roanoke Valley of Virginia, has just launched a mobile application for the Android. It features the Coldwell Banker Townside real estate agents - their photos, bios, and contact information ranging from phone numbers to LinkedIn profiles to Twitter accounts - and their real estate listings.  Now with the new Coldwell Banker Townside App, a real estate customer can contact a CBT agent, anytime, anywhere on a mobile device.

"Truly, anytime, anywhere," said Margaret Galecki, General Manager of the Coldwell Banker Townside office in Blacksburg, Virginia.  "We believe launching the Coldwell Banker Townside App will offer our clients, affiliates, and fellow REALTORS the most progressive and far-reaching real estate services available. Buyers and sellers can be assured that Coldwell Banker Townside is using the latest technology, not only to keep them connected with us, but also to better market their properties and offer the most convenient tools to find their dream home."

On the Founding of CyberSynchs

Posted by Anne Giles Clelland at 7:10 AM on September 29, 2010:

A guest post for Handshake 2.0 from Amos Winbush III, CEO of CyberSynchs.

My emotions ran the gamut, from panic to anger, resignation to resolve. Thankfully, resolve won out at the proverbial end of the day. The scenario: Me, an aspiring 19-year-old Louisiana-bred musician crafting a sound and working to make a name for himself in The Big Apple and making some inroads...until the fateful day when my prized six-month-old smartphone crashed.

Surely somebody - the manufacturer, a tech support person, a buddy, could restore color to that mournfully black and lifeless screen. You can guess the answer, which wasn’t what a musician without access to music files, key personal contacts, emails, text messages and photos wanted to hear. Out of sheer frustration, I founded CyberSynchs.

CybersynchsCyberSynchs Mobile, our two-year-old company’s flagship product, is a $2.99 per month subscription service that wirelessly and automatically enables users to synchronize, backup, share, transfer and retrieve smartphone and mobile device content.

Lost phone? Crashed phone? No problem.  CyberSynchs remotely houses all subscriber information on secure servers for full, immediate data recovery onto a new device. The system is embedded into devices from an array of manufacturers for connectivity, data synchronization, sharing and transfer through the hybrid cloud between mobile devices and personal computers.

Becoming a “studio apartment” entrepreneur in June 2008, my initial $100,000 personal investment in-hand, has been an eye-opening experience to say the least. The economic problems that arrived the following November, while challenging, enabled me to choose suddenly unemployed top talent to manage CyberSynchs’ various functions and operations. An additional $500,000 outside investment was also a big help, as was the formation of a technology and business partnership with Sun Microsystems.

While running a lean, 15-person operation, our company’s forecast, despite our moratorium on raises, remains sunny and bright.

How to Add Links to a Facebook Page

Posted by Anne Giles Clelland at 8:00 AM on September 25, 2010:

I truly enjoy setting up Facebook pages for Handshake's clients.  Many ask me how to add a link to another site to a Facebook page, so I made a demo video, another fine release from Handshake's video production studio.  Typing around a tiny tripod was a bit of a challenge.  I posted the resultant blooper on Handshake's Facebook page.  After readjusting the camera, I noticed that the bottom of the screen is missing when I point out the Share button on YouTube, so I've included a screenshot of the missing URL below.

Handshake App FAQs

Posted by Anne Giles Clelland at 6:30 AM on September 24, 2010:

We've gotten great feedback on our Handshake (TM) App since we launched it for both the Android and iPhone and thank all who have given time and thought to sharing their ideas with us.  We've received many questions, too!  Here are answers we hope will be of help.

Q.  Who is in the Handshake App?

A.  Clients of Handshake Media - the parent company of Handshake 2.0 - who have been showcased on the site are in the Handshake App, and anyone who has appeared on Handshake 2.0 two or more times. (If we missed you, please let us know!)

Q.  Why are some profiles different from others?

A.  Clients receive a full profile: company name, company URL, person's name, link to the person's public LinkedIn profile, telephone number, link to the company's or the person's Twitter stream, company description, and geolocation.

Individuals who have appeared on Handshake 2.0 but are not clients receive a standard profile:  company name, company URL, person's name, link to the person's public LinkedIn profile, and geolocation.

Q. Can the information in a profile be updated?

A.  Yes.  Please send updated information with links to contact@handshake20.com

Q. Can I update my information myself?

A.  For the current version of the Handshake App for Handshake 2.0, we make the changes for you.

That's because we're our own client.  Handshake 2.0's parent company - digital media technology company Handshake Media - created a branded version of the Handshake App for Handshake 2.0.  Companies or organizations for whom we create their own branded versions of the Handshake App have access to their own data, can make changes 24-7, and see the changes appear immediately in their own mobile apps.

We have a client's corporate branded Handshake App just about ready to launch for the Android, so we'll have another example to show you soon.

Q. Can the information displayed be changed?

A.  We can expand a person's or company's presence in the Handshake App to a full profile if they become a client.  We have plans to expand clients' full profiles and standard profiles in the future.  For example, we may add corporate Facebook page links to full profiles and Twitter links to standard profiles.

Clients who want their own branded versions of the Handshake App can choose the profile information they want listed and the order in which they want it to appear.  For now, we'll keep our current information display the same, but we're open to suggestions for the 2.0 version of the Handshake App for Handshake 2.0.

Q.  Why doesn't the profile include a photo, a job title, etc.?

A.  We love LinkedIn because it provides access to that information and more.  That's why we included one-click, one-touch access to LinkedIn in the Handshake App.

Q.  Why do some companies appear in the app more than once?

A.  Because Handshake 2.0's founder - that would be moi - in her excitement to create a Minimum Viable Product and launch the Handshake App ASAP, didn't think through the structure of the database, i.e. design it to account for multiple people from the same company or organization having appeared on Handshake 2.0.  I take full responsibility for launching an app with a quirk.

Q.  Why isn't there a Handshake App for the BlackBerry?

A. We're pondering it.  Given the current market share for Android and iPhone, and our personal experience with BlackBerry users' limited use of BlackBerry apps, we're pondering.

Q.  Why am I not in the Handshake App?

A.  Because you either 1) haven't been on Handshake 2.0 yet, or 2) haven't been on Handshake 2.0 twice.

Q.  How do I get in the Handshake App?

A.  Ah, we loved this question.

To get in the Handshake App for Handshake 2.0, you have to get on Handshake 2.0.  Frankly, we think the fastest, easiest way to get on Handshake 2.0 that offers the most value is to buy a Warm Handshake.  And we have a page with other ways:  How do I get on Handshake 2.0?

We welcome more questions and feedback!  Please send us an email at contact@handshake20.com or tweet to us on Twitter @handshake20.

Managing a Legacy Site

Posted by Anne Giles Clelland at 7:00 AM on September 21, 2010:

"That's so 1996," a corporate executive was told about his website, created a bit earlier than that, now containing 10,000+ text files and more than 20,000 image files.

What is a corporation or organization to do with a site created in the days of the World Wide Web, with a dated look and a mix of dated and up-to-date content?

Mary Miller, founder of website content management system iCMS, recommends that legacy site owners consider moving their sites to a permission-based content management system.  A CMS gives a site owner choices about archiving content, recording and documenting the history of the company, and creating a new look that represents the evolution of the corporation's vision.

You're invited to connect with iCMS on Facebook and iCMS on YouTube and to read more about iCMS on Handshake 2.0
