Women in Leadership

Women in Leadership is a group of women in leadership roles who are shaping or have the potential to shape their communities.  They meet to build close, connected relationships with dynamic women leaders in a respectful, creative and stimulating environment while enhancing personal, professional and regional growth and development.


Women in Leadership was founded by Rebecca Conner and Amy Wheeler.  The group first met on March 31, 2009 and ratified its charter on November 18, 2009.

Mission


To build close, connected relationships with dynamic women leaders in a respectful, creative and stimulating environment while enhancing personal, professional and regional growth and development.


Our Charter and By-Laws


Who are our members:


Women professionals in a leadership role who are shaping or have the potential to shape their communities.



How we maintain membership:


· Attendance of no less than one meeting per quarter.  There might be mitigating circumstances that prevent members to attend more often and this could be considered in deciding whether a membership should be suspended.


· Email list will be reviewed and updated every 6 months.

Role Definition:



Coordinator:


· Manage communications within the group through:


o   Collection, receipt and dissemination of information


o   Administering and maintaining the e-mail list


· Manage logistics for each meeting:


o   Arranging meal orders


o   Meeting venue


o   Attendance


· Manage the membership list


· Delegates tasks to other members as needed




Program Committee:


· Collect ideas for meeting topics


· Research suggested topics for agenda development


· Coordinate group activities


 


Handshaker:


· Provide technology updates


· Guide the group in accessing electronic social networking sites for effective and efficient communications among members


 


Members:


· Share resources with other members


· Be fully present during meetings or group activities


· Respect each other’s time


· Support each other


· Share expertise


 How are roles filled:


· By volunteers


· Appointment is for one year


 Decisions:


· Made via consensus by those who are present at the meeting


 Our Ground Rules:


· Observe confidentiality; be mindful of the values stated in our mission


· Practice “I” statements with authenticity; observe others’ perspective or point of view


· Refrain from interrupting while someone else has the floor


· Seek deeper understanding of differing opinions and points of view; use this as an opportunity for growth


· Take responsibility for weighing in if you have a different opinion and respect collective decision once made by consensus


· During meetings:


o   Facilitation will be on a volunteer basis by members who wish to develop their facilitation skills.


o   Meeting minutes will be issued in summary form to maintain confidentiality.


o   For effective time management, segments will be allocated for specific activities at each meeting, e.g., conversational sharing of personal/professional updates.


o   Respect others’ time by being prompt in arriving at meetings and being mindful of length of sharing.


o   Give best effort to attend and participate – notify Coordinator if unable to attend


o   Meetings are held every second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 12:00 noon through 1:30 PM, unless otherwise changed and agreed on at the last meeting.
