You Heard the Hyperlocal News Here First

Posted by Anne Giles Clelland at 5:51 AM on August 24, 2009:

"Can anyone actually tap the $100 billion dollar potential of hyperlocal news?" asks Fast Company.

Yep.  Right here, actually.

According to Fast Company, "Hyperlocal sites - covering cities, towns, or just a neighborhood - can deliver precision-targeted advertising to local and global businesses. As the once-exponential growth rate for most Internet advertising in the United States grinds to a halt, the online local-advertising market is projected to grow 5.4% in 2009 to $13.3 billion, according to media research firm Borrell Associates."

To quote Monica Hebert, founder of NRVHub.com, in her Twitter update, "datsalotta moola!!"

According to Hebert, “What differentiates NRVHub.com from the New York Times and AOL hyperlocal sites is they are read-only.  They still use the perspective of print newspapers.  We have our own ‘Twitter-style’ social media channels and news videos daily.  With our interactivity and real-time news, we fill a special niche.”

NRVHub.com is a hyperlocal news portal, providing streaming video news, radio news and online news article on one powerful, comprehensive portal launching October 15, 2009.  "This portal," stated Hebert, "will provide everything central to living and working in the NRV - the New River Valley of Virginia.  It will answer the question, ‘What’s the hub-bub?!’ It will be the town square of the NRV!”

Thank you, Monica Hebert, for letting Handshake 2.0 know the hyperlocal news!
