Connecting People in the RNR - IEDC Follow-up

Handshake 2.0 brings you the fifth edition of Connecting People in the RNR with Stuart Mease.

Mease offers a vision for the RNR after attending the 2008 conference of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. 

"RNR" refers to the Roanoke Valley and the New River Valley of Virginia.

I've read and heard a lot about "branding." It makes sense in general but I stumble over the metaphor. Branding for what rangeland owner? Branding as for a class of products like cereals, certainly not just a product name like "Wheaties." Not branding as a quality class or snob level? Maybe branding so that people will think instantly "Oh , the New River Valley (or Roanoke Region etc we can't even decide that)... that QQQ place!" I'm for branding but I think we have not yet discussed and decided what should be substituted for QQQ. And a long list (or in my view even a short list) of things (places, scenes, resources) now present will not work (be adequate) to achieve what you and conference goers were really thinking.
